A fast-paced introduction into the rivalry between Matthew Brady and Alexander Gardner, as they pioneered commercial photography in America. This easy to read story is told against the backdrop of the Civil War and the Lincoln Assassination. The author, Mr. Pistor, is a former reporter, as opposed to an academic historian, and his prose slips into the melodramatic at times. Those seeking more information on this general subject would benefit from acquiring Jeff L. Rosenheim's "Photography and the American Civil War' as issued in 2013 by The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It is is a brilliant book.
